About
Powers Lake is a small, close-knit community in northwestern North Dakota that values its heritage, natural surroundings, and neighborly spirit. Nestled near rolling prairie and natural waterways, the town offers a quiet, rural lifestyle with strong ties to agriculture, outdoor recreation, and local traditions. Residents take pride in preserving community institutions—schools, churches, volunteer services—and in hosting seasonal events that bring people together.
Local amenities include essentials for daily life and small-business services, while larger shopping and healthcare needs are accessible in nearby regional centers. Outdoor opportunities are plentiful: fishing, hunting, hiking, snowmobiling, and wildlife viewing reflect the changing seasons and rural character. Winters can be harsh, summers warm, and the landscape changes dramatically across the year, shaping both work and recreation.
Powers Lake’s economy is rooted in farming, ranching, and supporting services, with many residents also commuting to jobs in surrounding towns. Community organizations, local government, and volunteers play an active role in maintaining infrastructure, organizing
This purpose of this site, is to create a place where anyone that has ever had a connection to Powers Lake North Dakota, can look at the history of the town and also catch up on events that the town has coming up. I grew up in PL and have very fond memories of my childhood home. Since moving to Arizona in 1987, I have been back often. Powers Lake is certainly my favorite place to be. I don’t think this place ever leaves your heart once you have experienced it. I tell friends of mine, that I grew up in a Norman Rockwell Painting. A little over a year ago, we decided to purchase a home in Powers Lake. The home we purchase has some great memories and connection for me. The home was Built in 1950 by my God Parents, my brother-in-law’s grandparents lived in it for many years, and it was actually the last home my parents (Wayne & Eva Jessen) live in PL.
I will continue to add more items to the site as as time goes on. As a photographer, I will be adding new photos as well of things like events, wildlife, and more, as time allows. Hoping to tell the story of Powers Lake past and present.
If you have photos of Powers Lake area that you think others would enjoy, I would love to chat with you about that. Thank you!
